Ford приступила в Германии к выпуску электрических автомобилей-фургонов для доставки грузов, используя технологии стартапа StreetScooter, дочернего предприятия немецкой почтовой компании Deutsche Post AG. Этот шаг вызван всё более жёсткими ограничениями, которые вводят города Германии в отношении дизельных транспортных средств.

Число противников использования дизельных двигателей ширится, о чём свидетельствует решение районного суда Берлина, постановившего во вторник, что столица Германии должна ввести запрет на использование на некоторых дорогах более старых моделей дизельных транспортных средств, выбросы оксидов азота которых превышают допустимые нормы стандартов Европейского Союза.

Давление на ведущих производителей с целью ускорения разработки автомобилей с нулевым уровнем выбросов стало стимулом для создания новых альянсов между технологическими компаниями и традиционными автопроизводителями.

Новый электрический фургон основан на ходовой части, выпускаемой Ford в Турции, а электропривод с батареей и дизайн кузова были разработаны с помощью StreetScooter.

Объём выпуска нового грузового фургона на заводе Ford Europe в Кёльне составит порядка 3500 единиц в год. Deutsche Post сообщила, что первоначально электрические автомобили-фургоны будут поставляться в её группу DHL, но также будут предлагаться сторонним клиентам.
